Amos D. Martinez organized Psychotherapy Practice Solutions, PLLC, in September of 2005 after more than 31 years of public service in clinical social work, law enforcement, and regulation of mental health professionals in Colorado. He earned a Ph.D. in Public Administration with an emphasis in Criminal Justice Management, a Master of Criminal Justice and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Colorado at Denver; a Master of Social Work from the University of Utah, and a BA degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Martinez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado (license # 989289/date of licensure, March 14, 1989). He also holds Advanced Certification in Law Enforcement from the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, dated July, 1987 and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, School of Police Management and Supervision. He previously held positions in school social work, juvenile corrections, law enforcement, and was a criminal investigator for the Denver District Attorney’s Office, Complex Crimes Section, where he investigated civil and criminal matters and provided testimony before the Denver Grand Jury. He also Investigated complaints against mental health therapists prior to his appointment as Program Director for the Mental Health Licensing and Regulatory programs in Colorado. He managed and administered the directives of five Governor appointed Boards representing the professions of Psychology, Social Work, Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Unlicensed Psychotherapists and an Advisory Board representing Colorado Addictions Counselors.
Dr. Martinez served as an item-writer for the national clinical and advanced generalist social work examinations for more than 10 years and was briefly on the Association of Social Work Boards National Examination Committee in 2006. During his tenure with Colorado he participated in the mediation of disputes between licensing Boards and mental health professionals and frequently testified before the House and Senate Human Services Committees in matters pertaining to mental health, psychotherapy practice, and regulation of mental health providers. Dr. Martinez has published articles in “The Forensic Therapist,” “Ethics and Behavior,” and “Deviant Behavior: An Interdisciplinary Journal,” and has taught various workshops on client confidentiality, dual relationships and ethical issues for psychotherapists. He also taught “Treatment of the Mentally Disordered Offender” and “Criminal Justice Management” for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Master of Criminal Justice Program. Dr. Martinez currently directs the Child and Family Investigations Certification Program for MHOnTheLine, LLC.
Dr. Martinez has developed a broad network of mental health professionals, attorneys, policy makers, and educators who frequently seek his advise on matters concerning psychotherapy and mental health practice. He provides clinical supervision for graduate social workers and professional counselors seeking licensure; practice evaluations: divorce and child custody mediation services; and frequently consults with mental health professionals on various practice problems involving licensing and professional disciplinary matters, ethical issues, and malpractice litigation.
